What are the stats for the stub revolver again? Which Autogun did I just found on this dead brute? Where is the rulebook, I need to check the armour rating of an enforcer light carpace armour again.
These were questions common while playing Dark Heresy 2nd Edition and often broke the immersion completely. But the Emperor‘s light shines upon you and your personal data-slate. And now – all these questions are only a fainting memory of the old days…
Today we are happy to announce the release of the next free content update for „Dark Heresy: Digital Character Sheet“. The new features in this content update are:
- Searchable database for talents
- Searchable database for weapons
- Searchable database for gear
- Searchable database for armour
- All databases include the core rulebook and the enemies within supplement items
- Personal initiative tracker
- improved inventory handling
- and as always: bugfixes

As promised, we increased output and even skipped a version*! The new 1.0.3 release is out now. To get the new version, just open your DHDCS app while connected to the internet and wait a few minutes (depending on your internet connection speed). The app reloads after applying the patch and if you read 1.0.3 in the footer of the overview tab, you are good to go.
The 1.0.3 store version will follow in a few days, but unless you need a clean install, there is no need to wait for it.
Have a nice day!
*we did not really skipped a version, but due to problems with the google play store, we had to increment our version number two times :-p
Here is the full changelog:

The version 1.0.1 of the Dark Heresy: Digital Character Sheet App has just been released.
How to update:
Updating the app is really easy. Just open your 1.0.0 app and connect the device to the internet. Wait a few minutes, then close and restart the app. You should now have the 1.0.1 version installed. Important: After installing the update, please backup your characters with the backup/load button in the character selection. If the app crashes for any reason, you will be able to download the characters to your computer’s hard drive, reinstall the app and restore your characters.
App Store Updates:
The Update is also available from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. You might however see the old version after updating the app. This is not a bug, the new version will be installed in the background when the app is running (please connect the mobile device to the internet). If you just purchased the app and download for the first time, it won’t be necessary to connect to the internet to get the newest version.
Why is this so complicated?
We have changed the update procedure to push new updates and bugfixes to your devices as soon as WE think the update is ready and not have to wait several days for Apple and Google to review the updates.
We will release a new update every week and every three weeks, we will upload a new version to the app stores.
Changelog version 1.0.1
- NEW: “Enemies Within” Character Creation options added
- NEW: Export/import/backup your characters. Also trade them with your friends
- NEW: New Update system for faster and easier app updates
- bugfix: fixed wrong talent in Adeptus Administorum background
- bugfix: changed STR to S in characteristics overview
- bugfix: fixed iphone6 splash screen and icons
- bugfix: fixed endless loading screen crash
- bugfix: fixed character creation horizontal scrolling

It’s been two weeks now since we launched our first major app, the “Dark Heresy: Digital Character Sheet” (DHDCS) app. DHDCS is a companion app for the Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy Pen & Paper Roleplay system by Fantasy Flight Games. Basically, it turns the old paper character sheet, where you keep your characters properties, skills, equipment and more into an application capable of managing all of your characters, calculating dice rolls and much more. It also takes the hour long character creation process and breaks it down to a fast five minute process, keeping every option available.
But this post is not about the app itself, it is about our less than perfect launch. A lot of stuff went wrong, and we still recover from it.

We are still waiting for the DHDCS 1.0.1 update to get approved by Apple, so sorry, no progress here. But I do want talk briefly about how YOU can help us a lot with 2 minutes of your time.
If you bought the Dark Heresy: Digital Character App or downloaded one of our other apps, please rate the app. And if you are super-nice, leave a short review. It means a lot to us and it is a very important factor for others who are considering to buy the app.
And, as usual, you can always mail us or get in touch via our social channels on Facebook and Twitter. We answer every mail and for our new version, we added a lot of features requested by the users, like the Enemies Within supplement.
We have just uploaded the patch 1.0.1 for Dark Heresy: DCS to Apple and are now waiting for their review. For everyone who is not an app developer and does not know how Apple’s App Store works:
First, we create the app or the patch on our development machines. Then we upload the final version to Apple. After that, we wait for Apple to review and check the new version for errors which might affect the customers iPhone or iPad in a bad way. This usually takes a few days (if you want detailed times, check this site: http://appreviewtimes.com/.) After the review is done and approved, we can put the new version on the store.
The Google Play Store (for our Android App) works quite similar, but is a lot faster because they don’t test every little piece of the app. Therefore, once the app is approved by Apple, we upload the new version to Android and they are going live roughly on the same time.
For the 1.0.1 version, we have done some serious architectural changes in the app itself. We hope that does not break anyone’s app, but we encourage you to make screenshots of your data before updating. In the new update, we added a backup/export/import system for characters, which is really easy and awesome. You can now export your characters as a file and store it save on your pc’s hard drive. If your Tablet or Phone breaks or (which we hope does not happen) we crash the app with a bug, just download a fresh version from the app store and import your characters from file.
There are other major improvements in the new patch, but I will post a separate patch notes blogpost for this.
If you have any feedback, questions, ideas for improvement or just want to chat about the app or Dark Heresy, just mail us 🙂
Have a nice day!
Good news everyone! We are making progress with the new Dark Heresy: Digital Character Sheet patch and will include a really nice function, which allows us to push updates onto your devices without having to wait several days on the apple approval queue. We will be able to hotfix bugs in minutes after the report comes in.
I’m really excited about that, as it will improve the whole development process. Every few weeks, we will bundle up all the changes and also release them as a patch on the stores.
